I thought the time period would be kind of painfully redundent being about similar wars within the same general factions of Rome 2. I was very wrong about this. The rise of the roman empire is what we all know and love and the byzantines kind of unfairly get glossed over in schools, but the length of time and amount of history between the rise of the west empire and the rise of the byzantines is not to be overlooked. This game is almost a full five centuries after Caesar's conquest in Gaul... think about that, the USA is only a little over two hundred years old. Consequently, the game feels about as close as we can get to Total War: Medieval 3, and it has a lot of awesome changes from rome 2. Great game.

Good, but not different
Love this game.. most notably the AI is improved in battle and strikingly more strategic on the world map. You will be fighting for dear life in this one. The AI factions more dynamically form alliances and diplomacy with each other, and plot other ways to suprise you, and they will surprise you.
